FAQs

  • How long is the typical study?
    Our studies generally last between 10-20 minutes.
  • What are the risks of participating in our studies?
    There are no apparent risks involving the child's participation in the study.
  • What are the benefits of participating in research?
    -The stories and questions children hear are designed to be engaging and fun for them. Children are praised and thanked for their efforts at the end of their participation-- we hope this will give them a positive feeling of accomplishment. -Child participants might receive a small gift as a token of appreciation. -Participants might recieve a gift or honorarium. -You are engaging in a learning opportunity.
  • When does the next study run?
    If everything goes planned, the study will kick off on June 11th, 2018 and continue throughout August 2018. During this time, we will be making appointments with participants. The appointment times will be flexible.
  • What is the time commitment?
    Our studies usually are a one time session that should last less than half an hour.
  • What happens after I sign up?
    Thank you for your willingness to participate! You should recieve an e-mail confirmation shortly from a Research Assistant. Your information will be entered into our secure database. When we are recruiting participants for the study, we will contact you and provide more information about the study. If you are still interested, we can book an appointment that is convenient for you.
  • I just signed up for a session, now what? "
    A research assistant will send you an e-mail with their contact information in additon to details about the session. They will send you the directions to our lab (within Bradley Hall). You should also expect to recieve a confirmation e-mail or phone call the day before the session if you booked a session 3 days (or more) in advance. On the day of the session: If you are driving: Please park in the visitors lot on Bradley's campus. The researcher will be waiting for you in this parking lot. The researcher will walk you to Bradley Hall. Once in the lab, the researcher will go over consent with you (and will provide you with important information about the study). When your child is ready, the researcher will start the study. Once the study is finished, the research will provide your child with a prize for their participation. The researcher will then walk you back to your car.
  • I have signed up for a session. Do I need to bring anything to the session?
    No, you do not have to bring anything.
  • Can I bring my other kids to the session?
    Yes, of course! We will have toys for them to play with while your other child is participating in the study.
